In November 2019 I was diagnosed with brain cancer and my life as I knew it changed. All the plans for the future seemed to be stolen from me in an instant. After the initial shock of the diagnosis, I rounded up my strength and resources and decided to fight.
I am now a different person than I was on diagnosis day, 17 months ago. I have chosen to stay positive, to enjoy every moment and take advantage of every piece of information, relationship or connection that comes my way with the hope that it will lead me to a new treatment and possibly a cure.
The journey has not been easy. I underwent a brain biopsy and I completed the standard of care treatment which consists of chemotherapy and radiation. I also entered a clinical trial with an experimental immunotherapy. Unfortunately, none of these therapies have prevented progression of my tumor.
I am now preparing to embark on a hopeful journey of personalized medicine.
I am pursuing a personalized vaccine therapy in Germany which is a treatment that will use my tumor's specific mutations to trigger my immune system to fight the tumor. This type of treatment has tremendous potential and some very promising results which gives me HOPE.
